Process

Eight process steps,
each with a defined parameter

Eight stages take a part from file to finished goods, each with a defined parameter range and delivery checkpoint. This page sets out how each step is run, the values we hold, and the usual causes of delay.

Eight process steps

What each step does and the value it holds

Select a step on the left to see how it runs and its parameters. Times below are per part excluding shipping; batches are combined.

File check and repair

Files are reviewed first: wall thickness, normals, non-manifold edges, minimum features and assembly clearance. Issues are listed with recommendations before printing.

STL / STEP / 3MF / OBJ Wall thickness ≥0.6 mm 0.5–4 h

Orientation and supports

Orientation follows load direction, critical dimensions and cosmetic faces. Support contacts avoid mating and visible faces, with local allowance added where needed.

Support contact ≤0.3 mm Critical faces up or sideways 0.5–1 h

Slicing and exposure strategy

Layer height and anti-aliasing follow feature size, with exposure tuned per cross-section — lighter for small sections, compensated for shrinkage on large ones.

Layer height 25 / 50 / 75 / 100 μm XY pixel 22 μm 0.5 h

DLP layer-by-layer exposure

A 405 nm engine projects the full cross-section onto the vat floor, curing every part in the build at once; part-to-part variation comes mainly from post-processing.

Solvent cleaning

Two-stage cleaning: soak to dissolve bulk resin, then brief ultrasonics for fine holes and tube bores. Clear parts are under-washed to preserve clarity.

Two-stage IPA cleaning Bores blown clean 0.3–0.5 h

Second-stage curing

Measured post-cure at the wavelength matched to the resin, balancing surface dryness against mechanical properties and avoiding brittleness or shrinkage.

Parameters by resin grade Consistency records per batch 0.5–1 h

Support removal and finishing

Supports are cut and sanded through successive grits, with mating faces finished to assembly feel. Clear parts add polishing.

Step sanding 400–2000 grit Optional blasting / polishing 0.5–2 h

Dimensional and visual inspection

Critical dimensions are sampled or fully inspected against the drawing, and appearance is compared with the approved sample. Batch orders ship with lot, material and inspection records.

File preparation

Getting these right saves a round of back-and-forth

Most delays happen at the file stage. Checking the points below before sending usually completes assessment and scheduling in one pass.

  1. 01

    Send solids, not surfaces

STEP or 3MF preferred; STL must be dense enough. Shells should be closed solids, avoiding zero-thickness faces and open edges.

  2. 02

    Annotate assembly and tolerances

State tolerance requirements for snap fits, inserts and mating faces in the drawing or notes; they determine layer height and finishing tier.

  3. 03

    Identify cosmetic faces

Which faces must be free of support marks and which can be sanded drives the orientation; marking the critical faces is enough.

  4. 04

    State application and quantity

Whether the part is worn or structural, the contact area and the batch range all directly affect material and finishing choices.

Lead time

Which stages extend lead time

Standard lead times below; the marked stages are the usual causes of slippage and can be compressed if flagged early.

Lead time
StageStandard durationWhat extends it
File assessment0.5–4 hModel needs repair, tolerances not stated
Scheduling and printingBy part height25 μm layer height, tall parts
Cleaning and second-stage curing1–1.5 hLong, thin tubes needing repeated clearing
Post-processing0.5–2 h / partManual tiers such as polishing or painting
Inspection and packing0.5 h100% inspection of critical dimensions

Rush orders can be slotted in — state the latest acceptable arrival date and we will give an honest feasibility call rather than agreeing first.
